On Monday last, a sailor named John Birmingham, fell from the foremast head of the Gem, lying in the Humber Dock, into the long-boat, and was much bruised, but is in a fair way of recovery.
On Tuesday, William Mills was committed to the House of Correction to hard labour, for one month, for going from house to house obtaining 1s. each from various persons, under pretence of opening a lottery at the sale-room of Mr. Hyde, in Whitefriargate; when, in fact, he had no such goods as he represented himself to have, neither had he engaged the room of Mr. Hyde, for any purpose whatever.
In the night of Friday se'ennight, a hog lamb was killed in a field of Mr. Vickerman, Marfleet, in Holderness; the skin and entrails, and part of the head, left, and the rest of the carcase carried away. And on Tuesday night, a fat ewe was killed in the grounds of Mr. John Quickfall, in the parish of Drypool, and the carcase stolen; the skin, head and entrails being left in the itch, near where it was killed.
As Joseph Coulson, servant to Mr. John Turner, of Bushill, was going to Hull, on Monday morning, between two and three o'clock, he was stopped near Hunsley Beacon by three men (on of whom had a handkerchief over his face, another of them, he thinks, had his face coloured) who robbed him of 19 guineas and his watch; he was stabbed in the breast several times, his cheek cut, and his left ear nearly cut off; and was taken to Little Weeton, quite insensible; he was dragged off his horse near Hunsley, but is unable to give a description of the robbers, whom it is hoped Justice will overtake.
On Monday last, Christopher Bolton, Esq. was elected to the office of Mayor of this town for the ensuing year; John Barkworth, Esq. to that of Sheriff; and Mr. Thomas Firbank and Mr. William Bolton were chosen Chamberlains.
